Interiors >> J. Crew Bridal Boutique

Oh right, it has pretty wedding dresses, blah blah blah, who cares!  It’s the interiors of the new J. Crew Bridal Boutique that have me swooning.

My favorite interiors aren’t generally overly feminine, but the new J. Crew Bridal Boutique is just. so. elegant.
And actually, it’s not overly feminine.  It’s a perfect dose of feminine.  I muse a lot about how I feel like menswear and masculine interiors are so on it right now, but that not many people are nailing a classic, yet interesting, feminine look (see: J. Crew Men’s Store vs J. Crew Women’s Store), but this just does it for me.
The balance of delicate brass with soft greys, curved lines (in the seating) with straight lines (tables), the strong contrast of the black frames on the white walls, oh la la.  Going on the lustlist are that desk and the nail-head trimmed screen.

And think about it, if you said the main colors of a room were going to be brass, grey, black, and white, you could imagine something quite masculine.  But instead the use of brass is light and elegant, the greys are in soft velvets and wools, and the stark black and white is balanced with plush textures (rug, dresses everywhere), flowers, and a chandelier.  It feels very feminine, and yet, it’s not filled with girly colors and there are no floral patterns, or even patterns at all, in sight.

Ok and allow me to just draw your attention to the floors for a moment: I love the herringbone floors, obviously, that’s one of my favorite kinds of flooring ev-er, but are they completely unstained?  Or is it just a super light stain?  I wish they were a little darker, do you?  Also, thoughts on the marble baseboards?!?  Now I love marble, and the idea of marble baseboards sounds oh-so-luxe, but next to the unfinished-looking floors, it seems a little off to me.  Too picky?

Also, this is just too weird– the image below is a compass rose my sister and I painted on the floor of her summer house a couple of weeks ago, that she’d been dying to do forever, and check out the image at top!  Apparently J. Crew was feeling floor-stars as well.

LustList >> Two-Story Bookcases Requiring a Sprial Staircase

Bookcases with a ladder are obviously on the LustList, but why have a ladder when you can have a spiral staircase?
Karl Lagerfeld’s library above stresses me out with its horizontally stacked books (doesn’t it make your eye go crazy?), but still, that staircase is awesome.
This one, from Marie Claire Maison, actually just appears to be two different floors that both have bookshelves on the same wall, which has the visual effect of looking like a double-height bookcase joined by a staircase.  Brilliant.

Freunde von Freunden

Freunde von Freunden, or Friend of a Friend, is like the German version of The Selby– it shows the living and workspaces of people in creative industries.  Here, one of my favorites– the Berlin apartment of Frank Stuve

Though a little too glam and intense for a space I think I could live in day-in and day-out, I really like the highly restricted palette and use of art — particularly photographs and sculptures.  Does it make you want more framed black and white photos in your home?  It did for me!
Also, those wonderful herringbone floors!!  Why does it seem everyone in Europe gets to have those floors?  I’m so jealous!

Yes I am still a sucker for color-coordinated bookshelves.

John Derian for Target

Mark your calendars: September 5.  John Derian for Target.

Click through for more from the collection…

I missed John Derian’s last collection for Target (why do I keep living in places where the only Target is like 30 minutes away??), and I do not plan on making that mistake again.  This is going to require a special trip to Ventura, which I have a feeling could turn into a trip to Oxnard to the chick-fil-a, which sounds like a wonderful marriage of my two favorite redneck guilty pleasures.

I’m pretty sure those are wax seals in that stationery kit.  Love it.

Oh, and everything is under $25.

Interiors >> Party Barn

Doesn’t this spot have an awesome casual summer vibe?  I imagine that old fridge would be always stocked with cold beer and friends would just stop by for a drink and a round of ping pong.  In fact, The Selby tells us this barn is just dedicated to parties, dining, and room for guests to sleep. Perfection.

Interiors >> Summer Cottages pt. 2

Does anything say summer cottage better than white-painted wood?  I love it everywhere!  Floors, walls, and ceilings.

Love the windows above, although positioned directly next to the bed, they don’t look totally functional in this image.  Maybe for the photo they had to cheat the bed over so it would fit in the frame…

Loving >> Sleeping Porches

Sleeping porches– a wonderful staple of summer nights in the south.  I’ve yet to see a sleeping porch (or really a screened porch at all) in California, I guess because it gets cold at night anyway and the house cools off, so you don’t need to sleep outside, and there aren’t mosquitos, so you don’t need a screened porch.  But regardless, I miss sleeping porches.

Especially this kind above, with multiple beds, where the parents stick all the kids at the lake in the summer.  How fun does that look??

Happy 4th y’all.

Not Kidding >> Bookshelf Porn.

A whole site dedicated to bookshelf images “for people who heart bookshelves”!!  Appropriately named Bookshelf Porn.
However, the images are not organized by any particular theme, which sort of bugs my constantly-categorizing mind.  If you want to see some nicely categorized bookshelves, check out past posts on built-in bookshelves that wrap over sofas, doorways, etc. here and here, and a post on art over bookshelves here.
