Who Owns What
I just came across this poster and thought it was so clever and awesome and was like, “Ah! I can’t wait to blog this!  It’s such a brilliant distillation of what these major figures are famous for!”
…and then I realized it might be “cool” only to a geeked-out art history nerd.  I’m still posting it, but at least I have perspective, right?

                LustList >> Bar Carts
In addition to fireplaces and bookshelves, a good bar cart or tray is, in my opinion, a real asset to a room.  It just makes any room feel like it’s ready for a good time.  Any time.  Someone stops by, you want them to stay and visit for a spell, you’re ready.

Yves Saint Laurent’s library, 1972.  This whole scenario looks read for a party.
The bar trays at the office in Mad Men are essential to the ambience.
The bar cart keeps this sophisticated room by David Jimenez from feeling too buttoned up, but underscores the masculinity.
Love this image, I’ve had it forever, and still don’t know who it’s by.

Love the combo of an anatomy-type print and a little sentimentalism.  The schoolish styling of the shot is pretty great too…

                Pimp My Ride
Aren’t these prefab tiny houses amazing?  Apparently there is a tiny house movement afoot.
I think if you pimped these out and decorated them, they could be so cool!
In fact, we like it so much that we want to start over on our current hotel project, which is a property that will have about fifteen cottages on it, ditch all the plans, and just use these!  Though maybe the luxury hotel-traveller wouldn’t find them as amusing as we do.
You can buy the plans for a couple hundred dollars and build it yourelf for $15-20k, or buy it ready made for about $50k.

Can you park these legally in NYC anywhere??  If you could, the side-by-side price per square foot comparison with other real estate would be amazing.
For reference, by comparison, Ron’s studio was about twice the square footage of these.  Most of these are 100-150sf.

On the Radar >> Stanley & Sons
Loving these handmade bags and aprons by Stanley & Sons out of Brooklyn made with repurposed vintage army and navy waxed cotton and other textiles.  The company was started by grandfather Stanley and recently reinvigorated by grandson Stanley.
They have an authenticity to them you just can’t fake!  The beat up waxed cotton and by-hand construction details are so handsome.

Arthur and Nina Zwebell’s LA Buildings
Here is the building those pretty house-warming invitations were based off of!
Designed by Arthur and Nina Zwebell, who designed many Spanish colonial mission-courtyard style buildings in LA, many of which are now historic landmarks.
According to the New York Times, “the apartments were commissioned in the 1920′s by Cecil B. DeMille to house stage actors from New York whom he brought to Los Angeles when talking pictures arrived.”

and…
“Set craftsmen were reputedly responsible for the phantasmagorial sense of architectural detail at El Cabrillo, which includes a central outdoor Moorish fountain, timbered ceilings, Catalina tile work, swashbuckling wrought-iron hardware and scaled-down versions of Citizen Kane-like carved concrete fireplaces in each apartment.”
There’s lots of Hollywood lore about this building, which you can read about in the NYT article, but it is also notable for being used for the show Chuck and the movie ‘Til There Was You.
The Zwebells also designed this apartment building in LA:
And this building below in Los Feliz, which currently has a one-bedroom available for $1500/month… can that be for real??

                Paper Pastries
I have a thing for stationery and paper products, and these might be the best house-warming invitations ever??
And a few more invites to love…

LustList >> Nixon Watches
The Time Teller P
Nixon watches might be the coolest line of watches I’ve ever come across.  There’s a huge variety of styles and each one comes in a bunch of colors.
The P, above, comes in 19 colors, but the white is my fave. I’ve had white watches on my radar for a while, and I think Nixon nails the concept with their designs.

Fantastic Mr. Fox
I don’t know how I haven’t seen Fantastic Mr. Fox, but seeing this book and video about the making of it reconfirms for me the urgency with which I need to see it. The set work seems amazing!
Seriously, a world created by the minds of Roald Dahl and Wes Anderson?? It’s like a dream come true. I’m feeling lamer by the minute for not having seen it yet.
Apparently, Anderson lived in Dahl’s house for a time while working on the film to take in everything he could, and then had his team carefully replicate tiny details for the set.  The miniatures in the video above are amazing!
..And how about this cute pink room and Dahl’s sweet wife?  From the way she speaks about him in the little video it’s clear how much she adored him and it’s so touching!
